How to Troubleshoot a Laptop DVD
The DVD drive present in a laptop computer will see a significantly higher amount of normal "wear and tear" than the DVD drive in a desktop computer. This is due to how often a laptop computer is carried around to new locations, as opposed to a desktop computer, which will stay in one position for the majority of the time. If your laptop DVD drive is having trouble functioning and will not read DVDs properly or at all, you'll need to troubleshoot these issues to do the repair yourself or by a professional.

Instructions

1
Spray out the inside of your laptopDVD drive with a can of computer cleaning compressed air. To do this, press the "Eject" button on the side of the DVD drive to open its disc tray. Open the tray all the way and then aim the nozzle on the can of compressed air into the drive. Pull back on the trigger and spray out the inside of the drive. This will dislodge and remove anything obstructing the sensitive laser lens housed inside the drive. With this lens completely clean, it will be able to read the data on DVDs and CDs once again.

2
Examine any DVDs you're trying to play using your laptop DVD drive. To work properly, these discs need to be clean. Gently wipe a clean, dry cloth down the data side to remove oils and dirt that may have gotten on the disc. Then, try to play your disc again. Any troubles that were appearing due to the disc being dirty will now be gone, and the disc will be able to play properly.

3
Try your disc on another computer. To confirm that the problem actually does lie with your laptop DVD drive and not with the disc itself, put any disc you're trying to play in theDVD drive of another computer. If the disc plays fine on that second computer, the problem you're having lies with your laptop DVD drive. If the disc does not play fine on that second computer, then the problem lies with the disc itself and you have no issue with the laptop DVD drive.

4
Update the driver on your laptop DVD drive. Locate the model number of your laptop DVD drive (which will be printed in clear lettering on the edge of the disc tray) and visit the manufacturer's website. Go to the product page for your exact model of laptop DVD drive and click on "Support and Downloads." Download any driver updates available for your specific model and then install them. Restart your computer. Any problems you were having that were a result of an outdated or malfunctioning device driver will now be fixed and the drive will be able to play discs once again.  dreambox dm800
